Meet Melissa: Learn about Vaccines to Keep You Healthy this Fall

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Melissa McLean, and I am the new pharmacy manager here at Oswald’s Pharmacy. I grew up in the southwest suburbs and graduated from The University of Illinois College of Pharmacy.  I currently reside in Chicago with my husband and 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons.

I am coming to you fresh from a 20-year career at CVS Pharmacy where the best part of my day was a couple of minutes I got to truly connect with my customers. That being said, I decided to make a change in hopes that I will spend the majority of my days helping people and building relationships based on trust and respect.

Fall 2023 COVID-19 Vaccine Updates

I would like to start out by sharing some of the latest vaccine information with all of you. Fall has notoriously been a hot time for vaccines, but this year is piping hot!

We have 2 new vaccines, which complete what I like to call “the respiratory vaccine triangle.” The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine was released this fall and helps protect people aged 60 and older with weakened immune systems or comorbid health conditions from hospitalizations related to an RSV infection.

Also, a new COVID-19 vaccine was released this fall that has better coverage of the circulating variants. At Oswald’s, we are currently carrying the Pfizer vaccine that is approved for ages 12 and up and are giving these vaccines by appointment or on a walk-in basis when available.

Fall 2023 Flu Shot Updates

Lastly, we have our old friend, the flu vaccine. We are currently carrying 2 flu vaccines, one for 64 years of age and under and one for individuals 65 years of age and over. Both vaccines are quadrivalent, meaning they cover 4 different strains of the flu. October is a great time to get your seasonal flu vaccine in order to ensure immunity for flu season, which usually starts in December and peaks in February. Come visit us today!
