A Message From Bill September 2018

Last week I attended a reception at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home. I am happy to say it wasn’t the usual reason for a visit to Ray Jones’s establishment. It was to celebrate Friedrich-Jones’s 100th anniversary. I ran into many Oswald’s customers and old time Naperville residents at the event. It was fun to visit and reminisce about Naperville and the city’s history.

Naperville and Funeral Homes Over Time

It’s kind of interesting that back in the 30’s and 40’s, there were three funeral homes in town, for a population of just 6000. Today we have just two parlors for a town of nearly 150,000! The other home, Beidelman-Kunsch has been run by the same family in town since 1861! It’s great that both of the current Naperville funeral homes are being run by local, independent families.

The Friedrich-Jones 100th anniversary celebration got me thinking about Oswald’s history in town. When Oswald’s opened in 1875 the town barely had 2000 residents. The remedies offered were all compounded from natural ingredients and the few drugs that existed at the time. A drugstore was the only place in town to find health and beauty aids back in the day. As time passed, and patent medicines became the norm, the store’s mission really didn’t change – help our customers with their health and well being.

Though the store has added many different product lines over the years, like the soda fountain, cosmetics, gifts and toys, our core has always been centered on healthcare. When we expanded our medical equipment department three years ago, it was so we could better serve our patients and their healthcare needs.

2018 Flu Shots and the Med Sync Program at Oswald’s

Our focus on your healthcare continues today. We recently implemented a medical synchronization (Med Sync) program for our customers. Med Sync allows you to get all your prescriptions filled at the same time every month. It also includes a monthly medication review just before each refill cycle. Less calls. Less trips to the store. More convenience!

Fall and winter are coming, so we will be starting up our flu vaccine program next week. We will have both the regular and hi-dose vaccines available. Check out our new pharmacist Hannah’s blog on Med Sync for more details!
