A Message From Alex October 2024

Posted on: October 8th, 2024 by Alex

If you’re reading this, you’re most likely a prescription customer of ours! We’ve been ‘publishing’ the Ozziegram since 2000 when we were still downtown Naperville. We include it with our prescription deliveries, give it to our medical equipment customers, and keep it around to store for customers to pick up at their leisure. If you’re not a prescription customer—what’s stopping you? There’s no better time than now to support your local independent pharmacy!

Meetings with Illinois Representatives

In September we met with State Rep. Yang Rohr and Sen. Duckworth’s Senior Community Outreach Coordinator, and will meet with Rep. Foster in early October to discuss problems with the pharmacy industry in 2024. As we all know, nothing happens in politics overnight, but we know the importance of continuing to speak with our local representatives to try and make change happen, and remind them why it’s so important.

Major news outlets like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, among many others, have recently written articles about PBM reform. To put it simply, PBMs are ‘middlemen’ between your insurance company and Oswald’s (or any pharmacy you use) that are supposed to ‘save’ you money. Unfortunately over the years, they’ve done exactly the opposite, driving prices up for pharmacies, customers, and the government, while they rake in record-breaking profits. As each year passes, we lose money on more and more prescriptions. That’s right—lose money!

Costs of Running a Pharmacy

While first and foremost, we’re here for the health of our patients, we can’t do that if our doors close! Think of the costs involved in your prescriptions: labels, vials, pharmacy overhead costs, the technicians, the clerks, the pharmacists’ time to consult, and so on—would you want to do all that and still lose money? Doesn’t sound like a business anyone I know would want to get into!

That being said, as the 6th generation to run our family-owned pharmacy, we won’t give up without a fight. From working with local politicians to joining industry advocacy groups, every little bit helps. If you’re not a prescription customer, transferring to Oswald’s, or if you are, referring a friend are extremely helpful things you can do to make sure we’re around for the next generation.

As the weather cools down, make sure to schedule your flu and/or COVID-19 vaccine at oswaldspharmacy.com. And don’t forget our annual Trick-or-Treat event on Saturday the 26th! ꝶ
