The Best Power Wheelchair to Travel With

Posted on: June 14th, 2022 by Oswald's Pharmacy Team

Traveling with any type of mobility aid can be tough–especially something as bulky as a power wheelchair. Thankfully power wheelchairs are getting smaller and lighter every year. This is a huge help to anyone who needs a power wheelchair for mobility, but it can still be hard to find the model that is right for your needs.

Enter the Zoomer Chair, the best power wheelchair for travel. The Zoomer is extremely compact and will fit into any trunk or backseat, making it the ideal power wheelchair to take on any vacation, trip, or errand.

Let’s take a closer look at the Zoomer Chair and all the situations where these features will help you with travel difficulties.

Compact Travel Power Wheelchair

The Zoomer chair is amazingly compact for a power wheelchair. The dimensions are:

Zoomer Chair Dimensions. Side view of the Zoomer chair with 24"x35" dimensions.

  • Zoomer Chair: 25”x35”x24”
  • Folded Zoomer Chair: 25”x12”x24”

Shrinking to 12” high when folded is an amazing achievement for a power wheelchair. The 12” height allows the zoomer to fit in any trunk, even trunks that have height differences in the front and back.

A Small Power Chair with Big Power Chair Range

The size of the Zoomer Chair doesn’t affect its power and range. Like larger power wheelchair models, the Zoomer can be used in almost any errand or trip situation. The power and range of the Zoomer are:

  • Range / Battery Life: 8 miles (on flat terrain)
  • Top Speed: 3.7 MPH
  • Turn Radius: 25”
  • Max Climbing Angle: 10 Degrees (ADA requirement is only 5 Degrees)

A 25” turn radius is the same as the depth of the Zoomer Chair–which means it turns on a dime! The range and power of the Zoomer Chair are incredible for a power wheelchair this small. On top of all this, the Zoomer Chair batter is really something else:

  • Battery Charge Time: 4.5 hours (empty to full)
  • Battery Weight: 4lbs.
  • The battery can be removed to charge anywhere

Zoomer Chair Features

Along with the amazing size and power, the Zoomer Chair also boasts several features other power wheelchairs don’t have.

  • Responsive joystick control
  • 8” solid front wheels / 10” solid back wheels (can handle mildly rough surfaces)
  • 2” solid anti-tip wheels
  • 275 lb. weight capacity
  • Comfortable mesh seat

A 275 lb. weight capacity is enough for most average adults to use comfortably on any errand, trip, or vacation.

Traveling with A Power Wheelchair

Unlike standard power wheelchairs, the Zoomer Chair is made for travel. The lithium-ion is 100% safe and approved for airplane travel. In fact, the Zoomer was built for both convenient car and air travel. Like any piece of power mobility, however, make sure to call your airline before any flight to make sure there aren’t any restrictions.
