I had a long-time customer stop by the store last week and drop off a relic from the past. It was a letter from the pharmacy in the 1950s, signed by my great-great-grandpa Harold Kester. It was introducing a new credit system called ‘Tip Top’ at Oswald’s. It would help customers keep track of tax-deductible items when they paid their statement at the end of each month.
The letter from Harold (Oswald’s 3rd generation owner) states “let us emphasize to you that we constantly strive to provide you with the best drug-store experience in Naperville.” I wholeheartedly know each generation of my family that has run Oswald’s feels the same way. I sure do! While the times have continued to change, we’re always finding a way to better serve our community.
With modern credit cards accepted nearly everywhere, I don’t think this system would excite our customers today the way it did 70 years ago. We continue to offer other more modern services and products our community is looking for though! This past month the services & products were COVID-19 at-home tests and N95 masks. With our vast network of suppliers, we’ve been able to have an almost continuous stock of at-home tests and medical-grade N95s available to our community since mid-November 2021.
