The Oswald’s Pharmacy Laboratory is excited to offer a new RT-PCR testing service in which results are received in 2 hours! Book your test today here.
The Accula SARS-CoV-2 Test is a molecular in-vitro diagnostic test utilizing the real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique, which means results are visible almost immediately. RT-PCR tests are currently the most accurate method available for the detection of the COVID-19 virus. This test has been authorized under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
How is this Different from the Previous RT-PCR Test Oswald’s Offered?
The turnaround time! The previous RT-PCR test needed to be sent to a lab in Irvine, California for processing and interpretation, which is why it can take up to 72 hours before receiving results. With the Accula SARS-CoV-2 Test, we can process and interpret the results within our own laboratory allowing for a quicker turnaround time.
What is the Difference Between a Rapid Antigen Test and a RT-PCR test?
PCR tests are more sensitive and accurate because it detects the viral DNA itself, as compared to the antigen test that detects viral proteins. PCR tests are considered the “gold standard” and are a more acceptable form of testing, especially for travel.
How is a Sample Collected for an RT-PCR Test?
Just like rapid antigen tests, samples are collected with a nasal swab that is minimally invasive. The nasal swab for an RT-PCR Test is only inserted 1 inch into each nostril.
When Should I get a RT-PCR Test for COVID-19?
If you need to test for traveling purposes, schedule your appointment within 48-72 hours of your flight. Click here for CDC information on testing requirements for travel.
If you need to test due to recent exposure to COVID-19 (for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals), schedule your appointment on the 5th-6th day after known or possible exposure. Detection of the COVID-19 virus is at its peak 5-6 days after exposure, and this will provide you with more accurate results*.
Does this Test Come with a QR Code?
No. We understand that certain airlines and destinations are now requiring QR codes to verify COVID-19 status, so please be sure to contact any airline you are flying with directly to see if they are able to accept a PDF version of the test results. You may always contact us at lab@oswaldspharmacy.com if you need further assistance.

*DISCLAIMER: The COVID-19 virus can only be detected within a certain time frame upon exposure from COVID-19. Although accurate, the likelihood of a false-negative result may be due to sample collection too early during the infection. Additional testing may be helpful to ensure testing was not conducted too early.
