The OxyGo Portable Oxygen Concentrator

If you have a condition that requires you to lug an oxygen tank around, you know how difficult it can be to leave the house. Small trips and short errands can turn into full-time jobs. What is the OxyGo?

The OxyGo is a portable oxygen concentrator (POC), a device that purifies air, enriching the oxygen content of air around you. POCs are designed to replace tanks for oxygen users who lead an active life. Most POCs that are available come in one of two ‘styles’ of oxygen flow delivery.

Choose Your Pulse Flow

The OxyGo uses a ‘pulse flow’ method of delivery, which means the unit delivers oxygen whenever you inhale. Pulse flow is the best method of oxygen delivery for POCs currently available as it offers much more battery life than continuous flow units. While most pulse flow POCs have difficulty keeping up with people who need a device with large oxygen output, the OxyGo offers 5 settings. The 5 oxygen delivery settings enable the unit to help most patients in need of a POC.

Pulse flow delivery is normally not recommended for sleep, as continuous flow is the preferred method for overnight use. Continuous flow is a constant flow of oxygen for the patient to breath, a useful option for sleeping as breathing patterns change during sleeping. The OxyGo’s five settings allow for it to be used overnight by almost everyone. Consult with your doctor to see which setting will work best for you.

Battery Life and Traveling

If you enjoy going out most days but struggle due to oxygen-related complications, the OxyGo can make a huge difference. The OxyGo weighs just 4.8 lbs. and comes in with roughly the same dimensions as a medium-sized purse, making it easy for anyone to use. Noise is not an issue—with an average decibel level of 40—it is about as noisy as a modern computer.

The OxyGo is available with 2 different battery configurations. A single battery model can get up to 4.75 hours of battery life, depending on the pulse flow setting. A double battery model can clock up to 10.25 hours. Full battery recharge time takes 4 or 8 hours meaning that a single battery will take 4 hours to recharge from empty; a double battery model will double that. And before you ask—yes, it is safe to bring this product on a plane!

Portable oxygen concentrators are not cheap and Medicare does not regularly offer reimbursement for them. ‘Try’ before you buy is a terrific way to see if a POC is for you. By ‘try’ we mean that you can see a demo of the OxyGo, hold it, and walk around with it in a bag or cart. We have a demo unit in stock, so you can see the unit turned on and hear just how quiet it is!
