When Should You Use a Lift Chair?

Posted on: December 5th, 2016 by Oswald's Pharmacy Team

By now, most of you have probably been into our medical equipment showroom. It’s been just a little over a year since it officially opened. The most striking thing to most people (next to the mobility scooter that looks like a Harley Davidson) is the amount of lift chairs we have on the floor: over 25! Like a lot of the items in the department, you don’t know they exist until you need them.
Outside of being built in America with outstanding craftsmanship, our lift chairs can help address a wide array of problems:

1. The most common reason for a lift chair purchase or rental is trouble getting in and out of a chair. While it sounds like a simple task, it gets hard as we age to get up and down. This is especially true when getting up from comfortable cushioned pieces of furniture. Have you ever seen an older relative, or even yourself, rock back and forth trying to get the momentum to stand up? That’s a leading cause of falls in the home and can be easily prevented with the use of a lift chair.

2. Post-surgery. One of the most common times for a lift chair rentals is after a hip, knee or shoulder surgeries. Your doctor may recommend them for various other procedures. After surgeries, people spend a lot of time moving between their chair and bed. Why not get the best of both worlds in a lift chair? With the press of a button you can recline to a near infinite number of positions to find what works best for you.

3. Increase family safety and free time. If you’re caring for someone who need assistance getting up and down, a lift chair can free you up from monitoring them. With the use of a lift chair, they have their freedom back. Also, there are often reports of injury from family members or caregivers using gait belts improperly or over-exerting themselves while assisting the user up from a traditionally manufactured chair. Don’t let this happen to you!

Of course those are just a few reasons people use lift chairs. Do you know anyone who may need one? Have them stop in to try one out! We’ve got a friendly and knowledgeable staff waiting to help you any time!
