School's Out: Celebrate before summer schedules start!

School is finally out, which means it’s just about time to enjoy all of your summertime festivities as a family! The sunshine season also typically means day camps and afternoon activities filling up you and your children/grandchildren’s calendars. A great way to spend the summer, but boy does that make things busy!

Before all the crazy fun chaos ensues, be sure to pause and enjoy the beautiful weather together–especially with those little ones that are now on summer break (their hard work at school deserves to be celebrated! 🙂 ).

That said, here are a few ideas on how to make the most of time you and the kids have before summer schedules start in our hometown of Naperville:

Hit up the pool/beach.

Centennial Beach will finally be reopening this Saturday, May 28th! For many years, Centennial Beach has been the local “swimming hole” for Naperville residents. It is a great place to enjoy family time while relaxing and soaking up the sun. 🙂

Plan a family picnic.

Pick a spot at one of Naperville’s many parks and pack a lunch for the day to enjoy with family and friends. A popular spot where people flock to for picnics and cook outs during the summer is the Grand Pavilion in downtown Naperville!

Stroll down the Riverwalk.

On a beautiful, sunny day there is no better path to walk along than the Riverwalk. Stop and visit one of the many interesting stops along the way like Jaycees Playground, the Dandelion Fountain, or the Paddleboat Quarry.

As an added bonus, bring a couple pieces of bread and feed the ducks swimming around the river!

S’mores and bonfires at home.

There’s nothing like a beautiful bonfire night at home with some delicious s’more making. Everyone in the family can enjoy sitting around the fire, looking up at the stars, and roasting marshmallows to create the perfect s’more.

Cheers to summertime!
