November 2013

I recently ran into a high school classmate in the store. He just retired from the Naperville Fire Department after 35 years and we started talking about old Naperville. He remembered being posted at the station downtown (where Lou Malnati’s is today) and playing football during off hours in the middle of Jefferson! Wow, has that area changed!

He then asked about how things had changed for us since we moved to Naperville Plaza. After a moment of thought I said being in the Plaza, particularly around the holidays, reminds me of old downtown Naperville. At Thanksgiving the drugstore would be bustling with customers picking up candy, holiday party goods, film and cosmetics. Happy people would cut through the store, carrying a turkey they had just picked up at City Market and stop to say hello. Cee Bees supermarket across the street would be packed with shoppers stocking up for the holiday. Parking was at a premium.

Now that scene plays out at Naperville Plaza. Casey’s and Trader Joe’s are packed, as is the parking lot. Customers come in with that familiar Ho-Ka  fresh turkey box in their arms and pick up last minute party and gift items here at Ozzies. We have everything from milk chocolate turkeys and Thanksgiving party wares to hostess gifts and candles for your holiday dinner table!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
