June 2013

Posted on: June 1st, 2013 by Oswald's Pharmacy Team

June is here and with it the advent of Summer and all the fun that warm weather brings. June also means it’s time for our annual Diabetes Day which will take place at the store on Saturday, June 15th. According to data from the 2011 national Diabetes fact sheet, 25.8 million children and adults in the U.S. have diabetes. 7.0 million people are undiagnosed, while 79 million people are at risk for diabetes. The data also showed that 1 out of every 400 children under 20 years of age has diabetes. Whether you have been diagnosed with diabetes, are pre-diabetic or wondering if you may be at risk,  on June 15th we will be doing meter testing with three new blood glucose meters that are now available.

In addition to the meter testing and demos, there will be information on how family history and lifestyle may affect your risk of diabetes. There will also be prevention information on ways to keep you and your family healthy. Given that Type II diabetes has dramatically increased for both children and adults, Diabetes day is a great way to check up on the health of your family or loved ones.

I would also like to welcome Arnie back to Oswald’s! After being out of commission for the last four months he is back at the post office changing watch batteries, taking care of customers and keeping the place as upbeat as ever. Welcome back Arn!
