January 2014

It’s hard to believe that 2014 is here. As a kid growing up in Naperville, 1970 seemed a long way off! Yet here we are in a world that is far beyond what my I could have imagined, let alone my great-grandparents! I-pads and iPods, tiny computers, “smart” cell phones, texting, TV’s you hang on a wall and even requesting prescription refills over the wide world web. It seems as if face-to-face conversation and interaction has almost become extinct!  There are a number of great things about the advancement of technology, but there are also downsides.

My Grandfather Harold Kester and Father, Bob Anderson always loved seeing and taking care of their customers. The opportunity to connect with a customer and hear about their family and interests is something we  feel is very important to the success of our business. No matter how far technology has come and where the future will take us, like my Grandfather and Dad, there is nothing more gratifying that taking care of our customers. Though we love being able to offer on-line refills and electronic communication, it will never replace the importance of seeing our customers up close and personal. It is because of you, our customers, that we have thrived since the 1800’s, long before all of this wonderful technology. I wonder what great-great grandpa W.W. Wickel would have thought of it all?

As Oswald’s enters our 138th year, we are proud of where we’ve been and where we’re going. But of course we can’t go anywhere without you. Technology or not, we are grateful for your patronage and know that when you walk in the store, we are always happy to see you and share a conversation. Here’s to a great 2014!
